Training and Professional Development

As part of the U.S. Department of Education Title IX Final Rule, school districts are required to provide training to staff. That initial training is aligned to the board policies listed on this site and includes the revised definitions of sexual harassment. We will also provide information to students to increase awareness and confidence in the reporting process. Training and professional development in these areas will be provided at different points throughout the year.

More specialized training was provided to school administrators, other administrators responsible for the Title IX coordinators, investigators, and decision-makers responsible for compliance. The Title IX coordinators, investigator and Decision Maker all have attended specific training offered by the law firm of Maiella Brungo & Maiello, LLP.  Areas coved in the training included:

  • Scope of the district’s education program
  • Definition of sexual harassment
  • How to conduct an investigation
  • Complaint process
  • How to serve impartially (avoiding prejudgment of the facts, conflicts of interest and bias)
  •

Training specific to decision makers also included:

  • Technology use
  • Relevance of questions and evidence

Training specific to investigators also included:

  • Issues of relevance to create and investigative report that fairly summarizes relevant evidence

In addition, school employees attended training during the in-service day at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.
